Warning! Beware of Call Center Scams

What are Call Center Scams?
Call center scams are operations run by criminals who deceive victims through phone calls, SMS, or emails. They often impersonate officials from various organizations such as banks, delivery companies, government agencies, or even Supersports Online, in order to deceive or intimidate victims into making rash decisions, often leading them to transfer money to the scammer.

How do call center scammers access your personal information?
Scammers may gain access to your personal details, including your name, phone number, email, or address through various methods ;

  • Clicking on links: Clicking on untrustworthy links can allow scammers to install malware or spyware on your device.
  • Filling out forms: Entering personal information in untrustworthy online forms may lead to your data being misused.
  • Consent to services: Sometimes, you may unintentionally share your personal data by signing up for services or participating in activities without thoroughly reading the details.
  • Data breaches from companies: Your personal information may be stolen from companies you use by hackers.
  • Buying personal data: Your data could be hacked and sold on the dark web.

How to handle call center scams

  • Stay calm when receiving unfamiliar calls. If someone claims to be from a government agency or a company you’re unsure of, hang up immediately.
  • Do not click on any links or open attachments sent during the call. Never share personal information, especially if it could lead to financial transactions.
  • After the call, immediately check your financial transactions for any changes, and report the incident to the authorities.
  • If you notice any unusual changes in your account or transactions, report them to the relevant organization, such as your bank or financial service provider, to stop and investigate the suspicious activity.
